About Emily
Known as "The Knitting Harpist" on YouTube, Emily Linlo holds a master's in harp performance from the University of Redlands, a bachelor's in music, a DipABRSM & ARSM in piano performance.
Emily was the winner of the CalASTA State Solo Competition Senior division, first place winner of the CalASTA LA Harp Competition Senior division, a recipient of the Valeria Finzi Memorial Scholarship along with the Promising New Harpist Award, and the first harpist to receive MTAC Certificate of Merit Panel State Honors. During her time at the University of Redlands, she was a finalist in the Concerto Competition, twice a finalist of the President's Honors Recital, was awarded a teaching graduate assistantship, and was harpist of different ensembles including the Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble.
Emily has performed in Hong Kong and locally at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Musco Center for the Arts, and The Broad Stage. Recently, she gave a solo recital at the invitation of Performance Associates, the City of Loma Linda, and the Chamber of Commerce as part of the Fabulous Virtuosos Recital Series. In the 2023/2024 season, she appeared as a soloist with the Claremont Symphony Orchestra in Mozart's Flute and Harp Concerto. She currently plays with Redlands Community Orchestra and was principal harpist of the Claremont Symphony Orchestra. She has played with San Bernardino Symphony, Redlands Symphony Orchestra, Dream Orchestra of Los Angeles, Filipino American Symphony Orchestra, The Chapman Orchestra, and various other orchestras.
Emily has taken masterclasses with Elzbieta Szmyt, Elizabeth Volpé Bligh, Alexander Boldachev, Emmanuel Ceysson, Claire Jones, and Skaila Kanga. In addition, she has published her arrangements on Sheet Music Plus and Sheet Music Direct under the name "The Knitting Harpist." Besides performing all over Southern California, Emily believes in nurturing the next generation of classical musicians by teaching harp and piano privately in person and online. Aside from the harp and piano, she has played the organ and handbells and has served in many churches.
